Пришло время выбрать себе новый ридер. Гаджеты я люблю, и в моих руках побывало немало наладонников, планшетов и электронных книг. Книги мне нравится читать на экранах с электронными чернилами, но на моих предыдущих книгах (Sony PRS-300, Sony PRS-T1, Wexler E5001, PocketBook 611, 615) мне всегда не хватало подсветки, я пробовал и фонарики — от налобного до прищепки, и обложку с подсветкой для PRS-T1, но все это не удобно. Поэтому решил прикупить ридер с подсветкой. Изучение предложения ридеров с подсветкой на начало весны 2015 года несколько удручило меня.
В конструктиве предлагаемых на рынке устройств нет изюминки, все какие-то хлипкие, пластик жиденький, с планшетами не сравнить, такое ощущение, что смартфоны и планшеты развиваются, а электронные книги деградируют — сравниваю с ранними ридерами Sony. Время работы большинства ридеров сильно уменьшилось, недообрезанный Android на читалке с одной-двумя востребованными функциями не нужен. Для читалки мне кажется логичным подход Покетбука: где-то в фоне быстрый и экономичный Linux, которого пользователь не видит, и хорошо проработанный и удобный софт от производителя. Купил дочери PocketBook 615 — все ничего, но хлипковат, нет кнопок по бокам для листания и нет подсветки, зато долго держит заряд батареи и удобный софт, не вызывающий раздражения — все на месте. А вот устройства с подсветкой почти у всех производителей либо на Андроиде, в котором полно ненужного для читалки и малое время работы, либо забугорные Киндлы и Нюки без механических кнопок, российского сервиса, а Киндл еще и без fb2.
На фоне конкурентов Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight выделялся конструктивом и по аппаратным требованиям меня вполне устраивал. Почитал обзоры и отзывы, вроде негатива никто не выражает, на сайте http://www.the-ebook.org/ пишут, что французы оперативно реагируют на отзывы пользователей и старательно допиливают софт. Заказал, купил Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight. Теперь мои личные впечатления от устройства.

А вот негатива у меня к Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight набралось существенно больше, чем я узнал до покупки, штудируя форумы и отзывы.
При первом подключении Wi-Fi прошивка обновилась до 6.3 (build 2326), произошло это сразу после покупки и предыдущей прошивки я не видал, поэтому пишу, что есть сейчас.
При подключении к компьютеру вместо обещанных 4 ГБ (минус что-то на операционку — это понятно) я увидел только 2,6 ГБ, что почти вполовину меньше. Доходячий Linux, на котором работает Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight, не может занимать больше гига памяти, вопрос: где они? Мне для книг много не надо, но как-то не приятно, что я вижу вдвое меньше обещанного.
Поиск по тексту не работает.
Выделение слов и поиск в словаре не работает, хотя на роликах в инете показывают, как это выглядит.
Оглавление книг fb2 в программном обеспечении Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight не работает (не активно), хотя гиперссылки оглавления самой fb2-книги работают.
Если не поставить обновление после каждой смены страницы, то много артефактов на экране.
После диалоговых окон интерфейса книги всегда остаются артефакты на экране (например, в браузере файлов).
Интерфейс книги насколько прост и примитивен, настолько же и убог в оформлении, даже в сравнении с Sony PRS-300, которая на 10 лет старше. Где же прогресс, хоть бы подсмотрели у кого, как это китайцы делают.
А почему в книгах нет закладок? Это же читалка, а не просто смотрелка. Это есть у всех аналогичных устройств уже более 10 лет.
То же самое с заметками. Почему нет? Не успели сделать? Вроде не первый год на рынке.
На сайте Bookeen очень подробно про PDF расписано. Только это про правильный PDF, где отдельно данные и отдельно рисунки, а если обычный скан загнали в PDF, как сплошь и рядом, то с масштабированием проблемы. Либо реальный размер и в экран влезает маленький фрагмент PDF-листа, либо весь PDF-лист вписан в экран. Других масштабов нет.
Поля! Три варианта выбора в настройках, при выборе варианта без полей они все равно остаются по 5 мм слева, справа, сверху и снизу. Если сверху и снизу можно пережить, то потеря сантиметра экрана по ширине превращает 6-дюймовый экран в 5-дюймовый. Сравнивал рабочую область с Sony PRS-300 (пять дюймов) — один в один. Могу приложить фото. А я-то покупал 6-дюймовый ридер. Причем рисунки отображаются без полей, во весь 6-дюймовый экран, значит экран позволяет. Странная фича.
При наличии сенсорного интерфейса центральная механическая кнопка дублирует функции сенсорного экрана и только мешает, вызывая случайные нажатия. Она не нужна.
На фоне перечисленных недочетов, наверное, глупо сетовать на отсутствие часиков в интерфейсе, хотя, думаю, студенту третьего курса потребуется не более трех дней работы, чтобы реализовать отображение времени рядом с индикатором батареи.
Теперь про хваленый французский саппорт. Захожу на сайт www.bookeen.com и в разделе download не вижу ни слова про Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight. Нет ни инструкций пользователя, ни прошивок, ни исходников, как к другим моделям. Кстати, про инструкцию: в коробочке с книгой полного мануала нет, он есть где-то в глубине папок на ридере. Так вот если пользователь подключит новую книгу к компу и компьютер предложит отформатировать диск, а это вполне вероятно, то пользователь инструкцию к Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight не увидит никогда, больше-то ее нигде нет.
Теперь сижу и думаю, сдавать назад в магазин или ждать новой прошивки. С одной стороны, само по себе устройство нравится и читать можно. С другой стороны, я заплатил за него деньги, которых оно явно не стоит, ведь дорабатывать в нем еще много чего надо, а ждать новой прошивки, возможно, придется долго.
P.S. Для Сонек PRS-300/505 был разработан замечательный софт eBook Applications LLC, который даже не заменял оригинальный (кстати, тоже неплохой), а уживался с ним рядом.
Было бы здорово его портировать на Bookeen Cybook Muse FrontLight, ведь старые Соньки работали на том же Линуксе, а железо было на порядок слабее (здесь проц 1000, там 200; здесь памяти 256, там 64) и работало все не намного медленней, а пользоваться на порядок удобней. А может, господа из Франции хотя бы глянут eBook Applications LLC?
Пока что мой вердикт: французская муза еще в большом долгу перед народом!

very hard to use touch sensor, in this case pdfs with images are unreadable. Sensor has strange sensitivity – better works with big fingers. Sometimes i had to tap 3-4 times. May be it’s broken? Me previous cheap pocketbook had much better sensor =(

yes, you can use your dictionary if it is compatible with the Cybook dictionary format (there is a tool available to convert from different formats http://www.albertopettarin.it/penelope.html). On your Cybook, in the settings you can specify the principal dictionary and also the order the dictionary results will be listed, if you use more than one dictionary, and you can consult other dictionary results than the primary dictionary while reading. I hope this answers your question!

If you’ve added a lot of books to your Cybook at one time, it may take a few minutes for your Cybook to index them all, so you might try letting it “work” for a while to see if it is just processing. If your Cybook is definitely frozen, first make sure the battery is charged; plug it in and let it charge for a few hours before trying a hard reset again (press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force shut down, then press again to turn it on as usual). I use a Cybook Muse FrontLight BooReader 6.3 but still experiencing freeze when in sleep mode… I often have to plug a usb charger in order to be able to reboot… is there a most recent update or something to do for this bug?
